James' Fan Club

Today was the last day of school at Swanson so I took James to the end of the year picnic so we could see my students. James has quite a following among 4th graders:

Houston

James and I got to Houston on Thursday. We are staying here while Tim is in Washington DC for a dental convention. My grandparents are also here so James gets to see his Great Grandparents for the second time. It is pretty hot so today we went swimming. James seemed to enjoy it even more than when he went in Florida. He splashed around and laughed at his Grandma. I don't know if it because he was enjoying himself or because she just looks funny in a swimsuit :-) James also had to rock his cabana style one piece so that he could match his Grandpa Jim.

7 Months!

Well another month has passed for James. His 6th month was the quickest yet and full of new milestones. Here are the top 7 things you should know about James on his 7 month birthday:

1. He can now sit up like a champ

2. He is eating food now, but still likes his milk the best

3. Knock on wood.....his sleep seems to be improving-FINALLY!

4. He loves to smile at his Dad more than anyone else

5. He chews on his fingers constantly

6. He has started to practice drinking out of a sippy cup

7. James loves to play with the big bouncy balls at Book Babies-he gets mad when it is time to go and we put them away.

Here is a picture of the shadow box we had made for James. It has all things that start with the letter J- Jolly Roger, a jack-in-the-box and jelly beans. I think it turned out pretty cute. We stole the idea from Melanie who had one made for Z. We are pretty un-original around here and steal everyone else's good ideas. A local artist, Porkschop Scotty made the shadow boxes (we also have a tooth one in our bathroom you might have seen) Check out his website at:

Swings

Tim had the day off today and so we took James to the playground for the first time. It is something I had been eagerly anticipating and was waiting for Tim to do with us. James tried out the baby swing and had so much fun. He smiled and laughed the whole time. I see many more trips to the playground in the future.

Friends

Here is James with his newest friend Riley Elizabeth (Holland and Kris Nelson's daughter):

And his other girl friend Audrina Abote (Lacey and Zack's daughter):

Sweet Potatoes

James is not a fan. They are his least favorite veggie so far. We have moved on to bigger and better things.

Meeting the Great Grandparents

James got to meet his Great Grandma and Great Grandpa Shaub yesterday. He was a hit. He loved Grandma, and especially loved reaching out and grabbing ahold of her face. James has 5 great-grandparents which is pretty neat. Now he just needs to meet Nanny and Grandma Fererro.

Happy Mother's Day

It is pretty weird that I have a whole new holiday this year. I am so glad that I am a mom to James, it is the best job in the world! Tim takes his boards test tomorrow so he has been a studying fool lately. He still made sure that I had a great first Mother's Day though. He woke up with James early and let me sleep in and made me french toast for breakfast. Then he headed off to study and James took a nice long morning nap (yay!) so I could get things done around the house. James and I then went and hung out at Tattered Cover and read some books and got some cupcakes from one of my favorite bakeries. Lucky for me, Tim got burned out on seriously studying by lunch, so he and his co-resident Kelsey studied for the second half of the day at Wash Park with me and James. We realized when we got there that we were all wearing plaid, so we thought a family pic was in order. Well, really only I did and Tim and James just humored me.
James though studying dentistry was about as boring as I did, so we took a walk while Tim and Kelsey studied.

James got checked out to see if the experts think he is teething. The opinion varies.Jax got to come too and got his hair pulled on a lot by James. He didn't seem to mind too much.James also practiced his sitting-he is getting much better and can last a long time before tipping over now.James and I want to wish all the other new mommies we know a Happy Mother's Day too! Jenny, Lacey, Holland, Jodi and Jill, Mommy-to-be Anne, and all the other moms we know-there are too many to list, but especially to my mom, Tim's mom, Amberly, and Kara because I know they read the blog regularly!

Butternut Squash

I made my first batch of homemade baby food this weekend-butternut squash. Since they are so ginormous, I have a huge stash of it in the freezer so James can enjoy it many, many more times. The first taste is always a surprise...
But it gets better and better...
Who knew squash could be so enjoyable?
