Kindergarten!

James started full day Kindergarten yesterday at our neighborhood school, Central Elementary. He has been beyond excited to start Kindergarten, he literally couldn't wait to get there. When it was time to leave on Friday morning, I got Mac ready and in the stroller and then couldn't find James. He was already down the street on his bike and waiting at the stop sign for us. He picked out his outfit and new backpack for the first day and worked very hard at using lower case letters (a recent development for him) to write his 1st day sign.

(James has major issues regarding how shoes feel on his feet, so a last minute shoe change took place right before we left)
James' good buddy from preschool, Jack, lives just across Longs Peak on Judson from us, so the boys are going to ride their bikes to and from school together this year. I love that we are close enough to walk and ride bikes to school!
James and Jack with their siblings right before they went in to school.
I grabbed James for a quick picture, and I sure am glad I did. As soon as he wrestled away from me, he was swept inside by the teacher before I even knew what was happening. The Kindergarten teachers wasted no time in immediately whisking each student in the school. It was like ripping a bandaid off, there was no time for tears from anyone. Nobody had time to get emotional because the kids were taken inside before they even knew what hit them!
It was a long day not having James at home, Mac and I were both anxious to go pick him up right at 3. He marched out of school in line with the other Kindergarteners wearing their, "I had a great first day of Kindergarten," crowns. He immediately announced he loved Kindergarten and it was WAY better than preschool or Pre-K. No school anxiety for this kid!
Giving Mac some after school love.
We went back to school Friday evening and got James' teacher assignment and class list. He was with both full day teachers all day on Friday and the teachers divided up all the kids at the end of the day. He is with Mrs. Strain and has 19 kids in his class. James is already excited to go back on Monday. I am so proud of my big kid! I know he is going to have an awesome year and am so excited for him to start this journey in school!

Ending Summer With a Bang!

Today was officially James' last day of summer break. We have seriously had the best summer ever. We have done so many fun things and I have loved being at home with my boys all summer. In the last week, we have packed in a lot of fun. Here is a very photo heavy post of our last week of summer break. Painting pottery at CrackPots Thursday morning:
Lots of bike riding throughout the week:
A night at Lakeside, which was SO much fun. The boys got free passes for participating in the library's summer reading program, so we met Tim after work last Thursday night to check it out. The boys rode almost every ride in the kiddie area and loved every second of it. We played a bunch of games, and they both got a treat and we spent a grand total of $6 the entire evening. I think it is our new end of summer tradition.

We spent the night in Denver after our Lakeside night and the boys and I went to the museum on Friday morning. We love having a family membership, because we can spend just an hour or two and just check a few things out each time we go. This trip was dedicated mainly to the animal hall. The boys love the animal dioramas and James never tires of reading each and every fact on every single display.

Saturday morning was the Longmont Fire Truck parade, always a favorite.

Sunday was High Country Beverage's annual Island Party. This same weekend last year, we were busy having Tim's appendix removed, so we missed it. It is always so much fun, so we were happy to make it this year. Tim took all the kids out on a paddle boat to the floating trampoline and they all got face painted, glitter tattoos and balloon animals. It was kid heaven.

Sunday we took the boys to a Rockies game.

Monday we went to Prospect's food truck night. It was our first time going, and now I wish we had been going all summer! Our friends live in Prospect, so we met them and listened to a band and ate awesome street food. The boys ran around like crazy and got huge frozen yogurts to end the night with. Perfect!

Erin and her boys are in town so we met them at Chataqua Park for a hike yesterday. James and Alec always take approximately 15 seconds to pick up right where they left off when they last saw each other. They were two peas in a pod and ran up the entire trail together. Charlie and Mac did a pretty good job of keeping up with them, just making more stops to fill their pockets with rocks.
Today I told James that he was in charge of the whole day. He chose a trip to the zoo and meeting Tim at Parisi for lunch. James summed up the zoo perfectly, "The animals must have known this was my last day of summer. Best zoo day ever!" The zoo was empty this morning, it was nice and cool and all the animals were so active! Mac's highlight was seeing the new baby snow leopard and her mom up close.

As soon as we walked up to the elephants, one went right into the water and put on quite a show for us!

And as we were leaving the Asian Tropics area, we saw a gibbon swing across the rope over the bridge right above our heads for the first time. So cool!
We finished our perfect morning with a carousel ride.
Whew, looking back at the pictures, we sure managed to cram a lot into our last week of summer! Tuesday night we went to Central and met the two full day Kindergarten teachers and saw their classrooms. There are 40 students and they took half of them today and the other half will go tomorrow with James. We will find out his teacher and class tomorrow evening and then Monday we will go to school with his whole class. I can't believe I have a Kindergartener! I literally remember the day he was born like it was yesterday and now we are about to send him off to full day school. I am so excited for him and the adventures that he will have in school, but I am also feeling a little sad that his days at home with me are over. We have spent the majority of our time together for almost 6 years and I am going to miss him like crazy! Kindergarten, here we come!
