Birthdays and Babysitters
Yesterday for my birthday Tim and I went to Sushi Den. It was our first time there in over a year, since before I got pregnant. It was also James' first babysitter, Brynne. After dinner we came home for birthday cake. It was a good birthday and even though it sounds cheesy, I didn't have anything to wish for when I blew out my candles. Having Tim and James and being able to stay home and be with James everyday makes me very happy and feel very lucky. My 29th year should be a good one! Happy Birthday to my dad and James' Grandpa Fererro today! We miss you!

4 Months!
Today James had his 4 month appointment. We had guessed how much we thought he would weigh and Tim guessed exactly right with 12 lbs 5 oz. He is 23 1/2 inches long and his head is 16 3/4 inches. His weight has moved up in the percentiles to 10%, his height is 5%, and his head circumference is 50%. So even though he looks gigantic to us, he is still pretty little compared to other babies his age. Well, except for his head I guess. The pediatrician said that he was absolutely perfect and was doing great with everything. He did say that we needed to work on tummy time some more because his arms aren't very strong, but that is OK. He was pleased to hear that he rolled over last week and that he was smiling and laughing. The next milestones we can expect to see him do are reaching out and grabbing things and using his arms to lift his body up while he is on his tummy. We are really happy with our choice of pediatricians, so hopefully we can continue to take James there when we switch insurances in the summer.

For Comparison
Here is James today and when he was 2 weeks old. He is wearing the same diaper, it is an extra small, which he is just about too big for now. He is also laying on the same lap pad ton top of his changing table, it is hardly noticeable in the first picture. You can really see how much bigger he has gotten!

James Giggles
Today James was in the Moby wrap and we were facing the mirror, bouncing up and down and singing. He thought it was about the most fun he has ever had. And yes, I know I can't sing, but James likes it anyway. (he doesn't start giggling until about 19 seconds in, so you might want to skip ahead and spare yourself from my hearing my singing for longer than necessary)

James' First Vacation

We just got back from San Diego for Jenny's baby shower. James got to see his Grandma Fererro, Aunt Jenny, and Uncle E-E for the first time since Thanksgiving. He has grown a lot since then and was happy to show off his new fat elbows and smiles. Jenny looks awesome pregnant and her shower was perfect. It was a wonderful way to celebrate her transition into motherhood. James and I are very envious of baby Lunchmeat's wardrobe and diaper collection. The weather was so nice and made us even more anxious for Spring to arrive in Denver. James did amazingly well for his first airplane trips. He slept almost the whole time on both flights, and hardly made a peep. Melanie travelled with us so that I didn't have to juggle baby and luggage on my own which was very nice. Hopefully James will do just as well when we go to Marco Island in March! Here are pictures from our trip. James with his first airplane, all of us at Jenny's shower (James is hiding in the sling), and a good morning smile on Melanie's lap.

White Noise=Baby Crack
So after 2 weeks of short naps in his crib, but long naps anytime he was in the car or in the sling we decided to try a white noise machine in James' room to see if it helped him nap longer. Well, I guess James just doesn't like to nap when it is too quiet. Today he is on nap #2 in his crib with his noise machine on and he is sleeping sooo much better. Yay! He is so much happier when he takes long naps. And now I can clean the house and cook gourmet meals for Tim while James is taking these long naps. Ha ha ha....or maybe I will just blog about it instead.

Happy Valentine's Day!
We are getting excited for our trip to San Diego next weekend for Jenny's baby shower. It will be James' first plane ride. Luckily Melanie will be coming with me so I won't be on my own with James. I couldn't find any Valentine outfits for boys without lame sayings like Future Mr. Right, so I had to settle for a heart on the butt. There is way cuter clothes for baby girls out there. I got some white and black fleece on sale at the fabric store to use as backgrounds for pictures, so no more wrinkled sheets in the background anymore. James has started to take naps in his crib and he is now napping for 40 minutes at a time instead of 1 1/2-2 hours. I don't know if it is the switch to the crib or not. He has put himself on a routine and so he is pretty predictable during the day. At nights he is still sleeping well, he wakes up once or twice a night to eat depending on how early he went to bed. He has started to get cranky a lot earlier than he used to, so his bed time has slowly been moving up each night. He used to go down for the night around 10pm and now it is more like 8 pm. That means that Tim and I can devote our full attention to Lost on Thursdays now!

We just can't get over how big James is getting! He is growing out of clothes left and right. He likes to sit up and stand up with help, but tummy time is still pretty much a bust. He can't seem to figure out how to lift up his head while laying down-he just sucks on his fists. I don't know if it because his head is too big or what, but I am always worrying about it. I will ask his pediatrician at his 4 month appt this month. We still do tummy time everyday, but he doesn't seem to be getting the hang of it. His favorite things to do right now are to sit up and look in mirrors, lay on his play gym and look at the toys, sing songs while having his nose and tummy tickled, walk around the house and look at things, and read books while sitting in our laps. During the day we do a rotation of those activities over and over and over! I am getting very anxious for nicer weather so we can get out of the house and take more walks and join some mommy and baby classes and activities. There are some at the local libraries and rec centers for babies 6 months and older. So come April, we hope to be very busy!
