We went up to the cabin on Friday night after Tim got off work. James has had a Lego gift card burning a hole in his pocket since October when Lego Disney sent it to him as consolation after Lego Hulk cut his head open. We stopped by the Lego store on the way to the mountains and James had so much fun deciding what to spend his gift card on. The cabin is under construction and not very accomodating at the moment, so we went straight to bed when we got up there and headed outside as soon as we woke up on Saturday morning. We have hardly had any snow this winter, so the boys loved having lots of deep snow to play in.
Keystone has a bunch of free activities for kids the whole ski season, and right now they have a hands on Lego exhibit going on. Clearly the perfect thing for both of our Lego maniacs. James with Lego Santa!
We took both boys to the bunny hill at Keystone and let them go up the magic carpet a few times.
All geared up and ready to hit the slopes.
Heading up the magic carpet lift.
Mac was 110% excited about his helmet and goggles. His excitement ended there. When we took James skiing at this same age, he LOVED it. Mac, not so much. He went down twice and was over it. But he did wear his helmet and goggles for the remainder of the day. Literally, he didn't take them off until bedtime.
James did pretty well, as long as you don't count following directions. He just wants to point his skis straight down the mountain and go. Tim and I have realized we are not good at teaching James to do anything. He is about as stubborn as they come and listens to almost nothing we say. So as long as we just let him do what he wants, he does just fine :)
James starts a 5 week session of ski lessons in February. So we are hopeful he will be able to go up a lift and get down easy runs with us by the end of the season.

I hope you kept a close eye on James next to that Lego Santa. Knowing him, he was probably tempted to bash his head into it so he could get showered with attention and Lego gifts!
I love Mac all geared up and also love this post b/c it sounds like it is written about my stubborn 5 year old who listens to nothing we say. Matt took him skiing when we were home and declared that Alec would be in ski school from now on when they got home.
The beginnner's slope is perfect. Much better than the rope tows. The sturdy metal wagons to haul kids and gear from the car is brilliant. Having to carry everything plus a tired limp child is brutal.
