Cabin with Cousins

We headed up to the cabin Friday night when Tim got off work and spent a great weekend with Steve, Amberly and the girls. James loves, loves, loves his cousins and was super excited to see them again after spending so much time with them in Mexico.
James and Taylor get along and play together so well, it is awesome. Chloe loves Mac to death and between her trying to keep up with whatever James and Taylor are doing and chasing Mac down trying to hug him, squeeze him and give him kisses, she stays pretty busy. Mac just follows around the big kids and uses brute force when he is tired of being loved on too much. The photo above was taken about 3 seconds before Mac threw an elbow and knocked Chloe to the floor. The weather was beautiful in the mountains-it really couldn't have been anymore perfect. We took the kids sledding out back on Saturday. Well, Taylor and Chloe went sledding. James was content to dig in the snow and Mac was over being bundled up in all his snow clothes about 7 seconds after we got outside and just wanted to be held.

Steve getting his workout in for the day.
We bought James ski goggles, which was probably the best thing that has happened to him in weeks. He loves every second of them. He tried to incorporate them into every game that he and Taylor played. Taylor: "Let's play family." James: "How about we play miner family and we can wear goggles?"
There is a gigantic ice castle in Silverthorne this year, that much like the name implys, is a giant castle made of ice.

James and Taylor went to all day ski school on Sunday while Steve and Tim got to ski all day. Amberly and I took Chloe and Mac to a play area at the bottom the mountain and met up with the guys for lunch. James had a blast at ski school and Tim was able to spy on him and catch a few pictures with his phone.

James said his favorite part was skiing backwards.
Unfortunately, the charming, wonderful, pleasant to be around James that I spoke so highly of last week did not join us for the entire weekend. IHe had his moments of being great, but Monday morning we hit our limit with his bad attitude and had to pack up and drive back home early instead of spending the day having he and Tim ski together. I was bummed that I didn't get to see him ski at all and really bummed to end the nice weekend on such a sour note. Such is life with a 4 year old I suppose. If I can overlook the embarrasment of James' awful behavior in front of Steve and Amberly that probably made me look like a terrible parent, we had a pretty great weekend. I can't believe this was the first time all winter that we made it up to the cabin!

Did you go to Critterland? The family picture in the ice castle is surreal!

Things balance out...the first ten years of being a parent you spend being embarrassed by them every time you go in public, then they spend the next ten years being embarrassed by you by everything you do or say or wear in public.
