James' First Two Weeks

After an uneventful and healthy pregnancy, we were shocked when Katy's water broke early in the morning on October 18th. It was 5 weeks before Baby Nichols expected arrival and there was still a lot to do to prepare for baby. Well Baby Nichols had other plans. After going to the hospital, we were shocked to hear that the baby was going to make it's appearance within 24 hours. Our surprise baby was born at 10:55 pm on October 18th. The first thing Tim said was, "The baby has hair!" (we were expecting a bald baby) and then he announced, "It's a boy and he is cute!" It was love at first sight, and we spent the first 2 hours of his life together as a family. He weighed 5 lbs even and was 18 inches long. And his head was not as ginormous or as bald as we had expected. Grandpa and Grandma Fererro and Uncle Steve, Aunt Amberly, and cousin Taylor were all there to welcome Baby Boy Nichols to the world.

On Friday Baby Nichols decided that he did not want to suck on anything and they moved him to the NICU. He spent 8 days there learning how to eat and regulating his breathing. It was a very difficult 8 days. We never expected to leave the hospital without our baby, and driving away from him was about the hardest thing ever. We were very fortunate that he was a very healthy baby and he only needed to stay there for 8 days. On his second day of life, Baby Boy became James David, named after both his grandpas.

We were able to bring James home on October 26th, and were very excited to introduce him to Jax, his house, and all his new things. Amberly, Steve, and Katy's parents had done an awesome job cleaning and preparing the house for his arrival.

Since coming home, James has slept, slept, and slept some more. As of today, he weighs 5 lbs 2 oz. He isn't much of an eater, but if he takes after either one of us, we know that will change soon. We will post pictures and updates frequently, so check back!
Love,
Katy and Tim
